Temporary Full Time

This is a Temporary position anticipated to extend until August 30,2024, subject to the availability of work.

We are an integrated team that provides food and nutrition services to our patients and residents at all sites of St. Joseph's Health Care London. We accomplish this through the procurement, storage, preparation and distribution of safe, high quality food choices in a cost effective way. Our ultimate goal is to earn complete confidence by providing excellent customer service to ensure a pleasant dining experience and therefore maintain and improve nutritional health and quality of life. Our departments operate within varying shifts from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, seven days a week.
We value teamwork and respect the contribution of all team members. This position would work alongside with our partner for the Parkwood Garden with Urban Roots London. Training and education opportunities are provided by both organizations. We value excellence and strive to continually improve our services, food quality and safety in a sustainable manner. Job Overview:

Participate in the completion of daily tasks at the Parkwood Institute Garden and needs of the organization. Daily tasks include: planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, pruning, trellising and general property maintenance

Work alongside and support teams of volunteers and Mental Health therapeutic recreation programming to accomplish set tasks

Collaborate daily with the Coordinator of Food and Nutrition Services and Urban Roots London Operations/Farm Team Lead in order to accomplish required tasks

Keep records of various data and metrics pertaining to farm operations

Generate resources on garden produce and education materials



Essential Qualifications

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational and verbal/written communication skills
  • Physical and mental stamina to keep up with demands of farming. The ability to frequently lift, bend, standing, walking. crouch and carry, lifting up to 28 kg is required.
  • Knowledge of MS Word and Excel skills
  • Able to work independently and with a team
  • Able to work in all weather conditions (extreme heat, rain)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Have a passion for urban agriculture; horticultural and gardening knowledge is an asset
Teaching and Research
  • St Joseph?s Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St Joseph's you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
