MH Child & Adolescent

Reporting to the Manager of Ambulatory Services, the Registered Nurse works within an intraprofessional team and clinically participates in the assessment process and follow-up of individual patients.  The Registered Nurse will work with outpatients and day patients to ensure continuity of care, as well as liaise with family doctors, schools, community agencies, various areas of the hospital, and colleagues within Child & Adolescent Mental Health. This role will require building strong therapeutic relationships with patients and families to support assessing risk, safety planning, and building commitment to treatment.

The RN works with an intra-professional team ensuring practice is based in theory, ensuring practice is evidence based and meets all relevant standards and guidelines as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Care is based on nursing process of assessing the mental health of children and youth, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

This is a formative time to come into working in Child and Adolescent Mental health, as Children’s Hospital is refreshing how we work to serve our patients and families. We invite the successful candidate to be actively present with patients, families, staff and partners to make meaningful change to best serve our community where they are at. This position will have the opportunity and expectation to be working offsite with and at the locations of our care partners in the community.

Regular Full-Time

Rate of Pay:           $39.07 per hour - $56.00 per hour

Hours of work:       37.5 hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C) for which you can provide proof upon request
  • Minimum of one year recent experience within acute mental health care required
  • Recent experience working with children, adolescents, and their families within acute mental health care preferred
  • Canadian Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Certification CPMHN(c) preferred
  • DBT Certification preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, coordinate, and participate in team/family conferences and clinical activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cerner or an electronic health record preferred
  • Demonstrated competency in risk assessment and intervention
  • Demonstrated skill in the coordination of intra-professional plan of care/management of therapeutic milieu
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills with the ability to interact with others in a respectful manner
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of the team
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:
