Job Summary

 

The Research Operations Lead supports the assigned research team in the conduct of clinical research studies under the direction of the Principal Investigator(s).

The Research Operations Lead provides direct supervision of assigned research staff and manages the administrative responsibilities of a research area. Interprets, implements and ensures compliance with policies, operating plans and processes.  Oversee the completion and/or facilitate REB applications and renewals, Health Canada applications, grant proposals. Ensure all institutional and regulatory requirements are met, and maintained; support monitoring visits. In collaboration with the Principal Investigator(s) forecasts, plans and prepares the areas operating budget; and ensures effective human resource allocation through recruitment, selection, training compliance and performance management.

This role liaises with research and clinical staff and external stakeholders in the conduct of research studies while ensuring compliance with the research study protocol and research policies and regulatory requirements.

 Rate of Pay:                        Commensurate with experience

Hours of Work:                     37.5 hours per week

Duration:                              12 month contract, renewable

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Principal Investigator(s) forecasts, plans and prepares the department’s operating budget
  • Oversees research areas budgeting, financial reporting and accounting; insuring accurate and complete documentation and tracking
  • Oversees the completion and/or facilitate REB applications and renewals, Health Canada applications, grant proposals
  • Ensure all institutional and regulatory requirements are met, and maintained; support monitoring visits
  • Interprets, implements and ensures compliance with policies, operating plans and processes. 
  • Provides support, and direction to team members and students in their completing tasks according to project requirements
  • Provides day-to-day supervision to research staff and students as assigned
  • Ensures effective human resource allocation through recruitment, selection, and performance management
  • Oversees and ensures the onboarding and training compliance of research staff and students
  • Support and maintain development of strategic partnerships and professional networks

 

Qualifications

 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in relevant area of study or equivalent education and experience required
  • Five years of experience in the health/research industry preferred
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and balance multiple projects to meet project deadlines.
  • Experience conducting clinical research preferred
  • Experience with Redcap and/or other electronic data capture systems
  • Experience working in a health care setting would be an asset
  • Ability to collaborate with researchers and hospital staff
  • Knowledge of the phases of a research and clinical project cycle preferred
  • Ability to work independently as well as in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to follow processes with a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Well developed organizational skills with the ability to set priorities to meet deadlines for multiple projects
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Leadership, training, and mentoring skills
