Hours of work are anticipated to include days, and weekends.

A challenging and exciting opportunity exists to work in a collaborative interprofessional environment delivering occupational therapy services to rehabilitation patients in a specialized rehabilitation setting.

This is an ideal opportunity for an individual who wants to be on a team of Rehabilitation Practitioners who are considered leaders in the delivery of rehabilitation care and to actively participate in improving the outcomes of the patients we serve and to the health care system as a whole.

Using the principles of patient centered care, the successful applicant will incorporate a holistic approach to assess, develop and implement an intervention plan to address occupational performance areas that comprise the patients overall function and facilitate timely and safe discharge. The supportive learning environment allows for the opportunity to develop and strengthen a broad range of skills guided by sound clinical judgment, evidence-based practice guidelines and quality-based procedures.

The current assignments are in: Inpatient Stroke/Neurological and the Outpatient Transitional and Lifelong Care (TLC) Program with the opportunity to support other Rehab programs.



Essential Qualifications

  • Valid registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated knowledge base in the provision of service to the stroke/neurological inpatient, acquired brain injury and spinal cord population
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational, time management, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective team member
  • Demonstrated experience using a patient-centered approach
  • Self-directed, self-motivated to accomplish specified outcomes
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice
  • Knowledge of and ability to mobilize community resources
  • Experience in the development of teaching materials and the teaching of clients, family, and caregivers
  • Working knowledge and experience with theories and principles of guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches
  • Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
  • Familiarity with outcome measurement related to clinical practice
  • Flexibility in adapting to varying caseload needs
  • Knowledge of computer systems (eg. workload measurement, Cerner, Outlook, Microsoft Office)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge base in the provision of services for adolescents and adults with special health and rehabilitative needs related to a physically disability of childhood onset (cerebral palsy, spina bifida, Rett Syndrome, and other conditions)
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Assistive Devices Program (ADP) Authorizer
  • Experience in wheelchair and seating assessment, intervention, and prescription
  • Completion of the Basic Bobath or NDT Certification Course
  • Minimum of 2 years full time related experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Experience in both hospital and community service delivery
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in research communication and program evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and direct support personnel

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
