Medical Affairs - Respirology Medicine 

Supporting Dr. Dhaliwal  the Medical Secretary is responsible for planning and monitoring the daily organization of the clinic/office and providing secretarial support to the physicians in their clinical practice as well as some academic responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to, answering of telephones and contacting patients; general reception duties; scheduling of patient appointments; liaising with other medical and health professionals to facilitate patient referrals; preparation of correspondence; letter transcription; transcribing clinical notes. Academic responsibilities might include scheduling of meetings, keeping academic portfolios updated and organized.  Office is fast paced with many urgent referrals caring for a sick patient population, previous experience in the care of cancer patients is preferred.

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma in Medical Office administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by the hospital
  • Minimum two (2) years recent, related experience in a Physician’s office
  • Demonstrated proficient computer software skills - conversant with LHSC software, office tools, patient registration, scheduling program etc.
  • Demonstrated proficient dictatyping skills
  • Demonstrated proficient knowledge of medical terminology and OHIP billing procedures
  • Demonstrated proficient general bookkeeping and accounting skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate professionally (both verbal and written) with all staff, patients, and their families
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize effectively and accurately in a setting of competing demands
  • Demonstrated excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and be empathetic and sensitive to patient needs as per hospital policies
  • Ability to identify and bring forward to the physician, issues/items, and concerns
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

 

Immunization Requirements:

Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
