The Mental Health Care Program provides care to individuals and their supports experiencing severe and persistent mental health challenges. Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Model is the overarching philosophical framework in which an interdisciplinary team delivers care. This philosophy is built on a set of principles and values that emphasize client and family involvement in decision making, client choice, the provision of a range of services to meet treatment, rehabilitation and support needs, and a commitment from mental health services professionals to achieving the best possible outcomes for clients based on their stated preferences, wishes, desires and life plans.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an integral role that brings specialized knowledge, demonstrated clinical excellence and ability to ensure the use of evidence based practices within the mental health clinical settings. The role provides clinical and professional leadership that advances nursing practice in particular and the profession of nursing through expert practitioner role modeling, integration of theory and research into clinical decision making, education and consultation while also while working within an interprofessional model of care.

Essential Qualifications

  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Current Registration with the CNO
  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MScN) or Masters of Nursing (MN)
  • Superior interpersonal, coaching and communication skills to effectively work within an interdisciplinary team setting
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills in complex clinical and non clinical situations
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of adult learning, coaching and mentoring principles
  • Advanced knowledge and skills with a multi system focus in mental health assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, consultative support and evaluation specific to the care of patients with mental illness
  • Ability to demonstrate a facilitative teaching approach with patients, families, staff and community partners
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting and/or promoting research use in practice
  • Demonstrated shared leadership experience
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and clinical reasoning skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Certification (or willingness to pursue certification) in and/or experience with the use of psychiatric rehabilitation interventions with individuals who are living with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent clinical experience
Teaching and Research
  • St Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St Joseph's you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
