Social Worker MSW - Children's Hospital

 

Reporting to the Manager of Children's Hospital, with the Health Disciplines Manager supporting professional practice via a matrix model, this position provides support to the Healthy Eating Activity and Lifestyle Program (HEAL) within Children's Hospital. 

 

Illness can significantly impact the psychosocial well-being of patients and their families, often intensifying emotional, relational, and practical stressors that may hinder their ability to fully engage in or benefit from medical care. These psychosocial difficulties need to be identified, assessed, and treated by the Social Worker as part of the total care of the patients and their families. Social Workers are actively involved in research, academic pursuit, and sharing of knowledge in the study of psychosocial aspects of illness and health care delivery.

 

Regular Part-Time

 

Rate of Pay:       $52.16 per hour - $65.20 per hour

 

Hours:                22.50 hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited university
  • Registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Demonstrated knowledge with the Mental Health Act; Substitute Decision Makers Act and Health Care Consent Act preferred
  • Skilled in psychosocial assessment and counselling (including individual, family, group)
  • Proficient in motivational interviewing, resource counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and/or acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT); expertise in these areas is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary medical team, grounded in a patient- and family-centered care approach.
  • Deep commitment to trauma-informed care, with a strong interest in pursuing ongoing professional development in this area.
  • Skilled in providing grief and loss counseling, offering empathetic and supportive care to patients and families during emotionally complex situations.
  • Culturally competent, with a strong understanding of and respect for diverse cultural, religious, and personal beliefs
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
