The internship opportunity offers a unique career opportunity for RPNs who want to work in the Operating Rooms but need specialized OR training and education to make the move. As part of the internship, nurses will be sponsored by LHSC to participate in the in-hospital integrated practicum OR program while orientating to their new unit. The nurse will be hired into the OR and must commit to a minimum of two years of employment in the OR upon successful completion of the program.

Regular Full-Time

Rate of Pay:               $37.10 per hour - $37.77 per hour

Hours of Work:           Shifts as required by unit and subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Ability to achieve the educational requirements to receive the Community College Operating Room certification
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C) for which you can provide proof upon request
• Recent related surgical care experience preferred
• Demonstrated commitment to the achievement of goals and objectives in patient care
• Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and professional development
• Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve conflict
• Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
• Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose, and Values
• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements

• Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 
• Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
• Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
• Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
