The Opportunity
The Production Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all aspects of the nitrile dipping production line, ensuring product quality with optimal throughput, and strict compliance with safety and environmental regulations as well as the overall output of the shift. This role ensures that production targets are met while maintaining product quality and minimizing downtime. Drive continuous improvement in process efficiency and cost control.
What you will do Production & Process Control
- Supervise daily operations of the nitrile dipping line—including coagulant mix preparation, pre-wash, dipping, leaching, drying, and curing stages.
- Monitor critical process parameters (CTP’s~ bath temperature, dwell times, polymer viscosity, line speed) and adjust controls to maintain consistent film thickness and tensile properties.
- Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for NBR compound handling, bath replenishment, and line changeovers.
- Monitor the dipping process parameters and make necessary adjustments to maintain product standards.
- Coordinate raw material usage (nitrile latex, accelerators, coagulants, leaching chemicals) to optimize consumption and reduce waste.
- Enforce in-line quality checks (e.g., gauge tests, leak tests, tensile/elongation sampling) to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory specs (e.g., ASTM D6319, EN 455).
- Partner with QC lab to root-cause defects (pinholes, surface irregularities) and implement corrective actions or recipe optimizations.
- Maintain records of production parameters and quality data for traceability and audits.
- Plan shift rosters and assign operators for each dipping stage.
- Train new hires and upskill existing staff on nitrile chemistry fundamentals, process safety (chemical exposures, heat), and contamination control.
- Coach and mentor team members, conduct performance reviews, and drive a culture of accountability.
- Oversee daily pre-start inspections of dipping tanks, ovens, conveyors, and scrubbers.
- Ensure all dipping line equipment is properly maintained and functioning.
- Coordinate with maintenance to schedule preventive servicing of robo arm, beading mechanism (pumps, dryers, and PLC systems, minimizing unplanned downtime.
- Evaluate capital requests for upgrades (e.g., improved bath filtration, energy-efficient ovens).
- Enforce adherence to company safety policies, including safe handling of chemicals and procedures.
- Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards on the production floor.
- Report any incidents or near misses and participate in investigations.
- Conduct toolbox talks on PPE use, spill response, and hot-surface precautions.
- Ensure proper wastewater treatment steps for spent baths and leach water per local discharge permits.
- Prepare daily production reports (output, rejects, downtime, chemical usage).
- Analyze production trends and recommend process improvements to increase productivity and reduce costs.
- Lead kaizen events to reduce scrappage, optimize line changeover times, and lower utility consumption (steam, compressed air).
- Develop cost-saving initiatives (e.g., bath life extension, reclaim systems).
- Fluent in English (oral and written) is required
- 5+ years’ supervisory experience in nitrile or polymer dipping operations (latex glove experience a plus).
- Deep understanding of nitrile rubber compounding, coagulation chemistry, and curing dynamics.
- Proven leadership and team-building skills in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical mindset with hands-on problem-solving (5-Why, Fishbone).
- Proficient with PLC controls, SCADA interfaces, and MS Office (Excel for data analysis).
