The overall purpose of this role is to ensure the smooth and efficient execution of the research projects in the Division of General Surgery. The incumbent runs the day-to-day operation of the General Surgery Experimental Laboratory (GSEL) lab space while also managing the clinical and basic research projects of the hepatobiliary surgeons. The incumbent manages all aspects of these projects, including the planning, preparation, funding, execution, and data analysis of retrospective and prospective studies as well as clinical trials. The incumbent also manages the students and staff that are involved in the various research studies and clinical trials. 

 

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting research within the Division of General Surgery and in collaboration with teams in Gastroenterology, Neurology, and Critical Care Medicine. This position involves preparing and maintaining research ethics applications, which includes gathering information on new projects and developing clear, well-written summaries, background sections, study protocols, and participant information materials.

 

Beyond ethics submissions, the role also involves staying informed about funding opportunities at the institutional, national, and international levels, and supporting the preparation and submission of grant applications. The candidate will take the lead in coordinating and managing research activities, ensuring that all projects, including clinical trials, run smoothly, efficiently, and in full compliance with ethical and administrative requirements. The successful candidate will also support in maintaining the lab space in a research-ready state, such as handling equipment purchases, repairs, and preventative maintenance.

 

Temporary Full Time 

 

Rate of Pay:          $26.01 - $32.51

Hours of Work:    37.5 hours per week

Duration:              12 month - possibility for renewal 

 

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of Bachelor's Degree is required (in a Health Sciences related field is an asset)
  • Successful completion of Master's Degree in Health Sciences, or related field, is preferred
  • Diploma or Certificate in Clinical Trials Management is preferred
  • Clinical research experience-minimum of one year of experience, medical research background is encouraged
  • Wet lab and sample processing strongly preferred  
  • Excellent record keeping skills and experience with database management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 
  • Experience with REDCap, PowerChart, and research ethics-based computer platforms strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills (both oral and written) and a high level of initiative
  • Experience with set-up and implementation of research projects and research ethics submission an asset
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
