Children's Hospital, Paedtiaric Urology Program is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team. The Nurse Practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post-graduate level, who demonstrates a high level of autonomy working to scope, both independently and within a collaborative practice model. Using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics, the NP demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in Paedtiaric Urology and exhibits a high degree of clinical competence in caring for children and youth with urologic conditions.
The NP in the Paedtiaric Urology Program will report to the Director of Paediatric Acute & Oncology Inpatient & Outpatient Services & Minor Procedure Room and will work collaboratively with members of the medical Paedtiaric Urology Program.The NP will interact daily with the interdisciplinary team to manage, direct and provide comprehensive care for a select patient population. The NP works with key stakeholders to provide advanced care that optimizes patient outcomes and enhances safety, effectiveness and accessibility. The NP in this program will engage in scholarly activities and advance knowledge by providing clinical leadership, identify opportunities for improving patient care, advancing best practices, promoting professional education and engaging in research.
With a focus on service excellence and patient safety, principal responsibilities include:
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including detailed histories and physical examinations, for infants, children, and youth with urologic conditions.
- Diagnose and manage a broad range of acute and chronic paediatric urology concerns within full NP scope of practice.
- Prescribe and manage medications, order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests and initiate appropriate therapeutic interventions in accordance with clinical privileges.
- Provide direct clinical care, including management of conditions such as urinary tract infections, voiding dysfunction, hydronephrosis, congenital urologic anomalies, bladder and bowel dysfunction, and post-operative urologic care.
- Support peri-operative care in collaboration with the surgical team, including pre-operative assessment, post-operative follow-up, and complication management.
- Develop and deliver education for patients, families, and staff related to paediatric urologic conditions, treatment plans, catheterization, bladder training, and long-term self-management strategies.
- Collaborate closely with urologists, primary care providers, nurses, allied health professionals, and community partners to ensure coordinated, family-centred care.
- Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to nursing and medical staff in paediatric urology care and best practices.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, research, and education related to paediatric urology services.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation of assessments, interventions, and education provided.

Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing
- Current registration in the extended class and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum of 2 recent related experience with children and youth with urologic conditions.
- Current member of the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) preferred
- Mandatory Current Professional Liability Protection
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)
- Demonstrated experience and leadership in clinical practice, education, program development and research
- Expertise in functioning in an inter-disciplinary health care environment
- Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
- Expertise in critical thinking, clinical problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
- Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
- Ability to provide project management skills to promote evidence-based strategies and initiatives for Paedtiaric Urology Program and ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians
- Experience in/or understanding research, program development and evaluation
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations and communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated excellence as a role model for clinical leadership
- Demonstrated experience with clinical teaching in an academic environment
- Advanced presentation skills including the application of adult learning principles, change theory and systems theory in a clinical environment
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice
- Self-directed and function independently

- Demonstrated skill in insight, self-awareness and self-management consistent with high emotional intelligence

- Eligible for an Adjunct appointment to an academic institution
- Proven ability to act empathically, while establishing and maintaining productive relationships

- Computer proficiency with Internet, Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Automated Clinical Systems and Virtual meeting platforms
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety

- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
