Nursing Resource Team- Children’s Specialty Service (Children’s Hospital) Victoria Hospital

The Children’s Hospital Specialty Service Nursing Resource Team (CSS NRT) operates within the Children’s Hospital portfolio under the strategic leadership of the Directors of Children’s Hospital.  A Manager provides the day-to-day leadership and direction for the team.  The CSSNRT is a staffing team made up of registered nurses whose shifts are assigned to clinical areas to meet appropriate staffing requirements.  CSSNRT nurses respond to needs based on patient acuity, replacement of sick time, vacation relief, and known vacancies.  The Members of the CSSNRT have the opportunity to work on a variety of clinical areas across Children’s Hospital, and experience a variety of learning opportunities in a supportive environment.  Nurses for the CSSNRT are provided with a comprehensive orientation and competency development program.

Regular Full-Time & Part-Time

Rate of Pay: $39.07 per hour - $56.00per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course:  BLS-HCP(C) for which you can provide proof
  • Completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred
  • Completion of PALS preferred
  • Completion of RNAO Breastfeeding Course preferred
  •  ENC (C), ACLS, and TNCC certification preferred
  • One year recent experience in acute paediatric care
  • Demonstrated proficient clinical knowledge in an acute care environment
  • Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Cerner or an electronic health record preferred
  • Well developed interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish and sustain effective relationships both internally and externally with the ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
  • Actively listens, gives and receives feedback; chooses appropriate communication strategies as necessary, ability to participate in performance development of self and team members with the ability to recognize your feelings, express them full and constructively and manage your feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teaching, coaching, mentorship and familiarity with principles of change with an ability to manage change in a dynamic environment with an optimistic disposition toward new experiences and change in general
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi/disciplinary team while maintaining effectiveness and resiliency when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
  • Committed to ongoing education and professional development
  • Demonstrated flexibility, adaptability and ability to change in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care

  • Immunization Requirements:  

  • Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health’s current definition of being fully vaccinated
