Temporary Casual Part Time
Salary Range: $26.01 - $32.51 /hour
This is a Temporary Casual Part-Time position that is expected to extend until approximately November 30, 2026, (with potential for renewal), subject to the availability of work.
Position Summary
St. Joseph's Healthcare London is one of the contributing sites for the Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN) study and is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Clinical Research Assistant and Data Collector to support ongoing research initiatives focused on improving the health and well-being of people living with HIV in Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting structured patient interviews, reviewing medical charts, and ensuring accurate, confidential collection and storage of study data. This role is essential to ensuring the integrity and reliability of data used in advancing HIV research and informing clinical and public health practices.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Screening and Chart Review:
- Screen medical charts to identify eligible study participants in accordance with study protocols.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure appropriate patient recruitment.
Patient Interviews:
- Conduct structured, standardized interviews with study participants in a professional, respectful, and culturally sensitive manner.
- Explain study procedures, obtain informed consent, and ensure participant confidentiality.
Data Collection and Management:
- Accurately record responses and clinical data into electronic or paper-based data collection tools.
- Verify completeness and accuracy of collected data prior to submission.
- Collate, organize, and securely store data in compliance with OHTN protocols and ethical guidelines.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Adhere to all ethical standards, privacy regulations, and research protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of all data collection activities.
- Report any data discrepancies, protocol deviations, or adverse events to the study coordinator.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily conducted in clinical or research settings.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to accommodate participant availability.
- Strict adherence to infection prevention and control measures and patient privacy protocols is required.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in health sciences, social sciences, public health, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Experience in patient-facing roles, preferably within clinical or research settings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Ability to communicate effectively general and scientific information both verbally and in writing at all levels;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively and respectfully with diverse populations.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with electronic data capture systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of HIV, public health, or clinical research considered an asset.
- Prior clinical research experience
- Experience working in an academic/research environment
- Training in ICH/GCP guidelines
- Familiarity with LRI policies and procedures an asset
- Familiarity with national, international and provincial research funding agencies/ organizations that fund research would be a strong asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work in teams, e.g. including faculty, staff, students and residents.
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
