Bed Management - University Hospital 

Reporting to the Manager of Patient Access and Flow, the Patient Access Clerk is responsible for the hospital's patient flow into, throughout and out of the hospital by accurately processing documentation and communication on the assignment of hospital beds to admissions and transfers. The Patient Access Clerk is also responsible for all surgical and elective bookings. They also schedule, pre-register and check in both inpatients and outpatients and update patient and physician/service information on a frequent basis. Patient Access Clerks also track overall hospital census as well as prompt answering of Intake/Critical calls and coordinating transfers into hospital and confirm appointments, along with repatriations and interfacility transfers within the province, country and nation-wide. They also ensure and correct patient and encounter information is accurate in the system (correct errors made by other staff within the hospital, update addresses, contact information, POA etc.) They will review infection control status of patients to ensure best placement within inpatient areas.

Rate of Pay: $30.70 per hour - $38.37 per hour

Hours of Work: Up to 22 hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a health care office assistant certificate, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the hospital
  • Minimum one (1) year recent, related Hospital experience
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Cerner, Electronic Patient Record, Workload Measurement
  • Proficient knowledge of hospital admission process
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose, and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
