This temporary full-time position is expected to extend approximately until August 21, 2026, and is subject to the availability of work.

Located at the Parkwood Institute (Lawson Research Institute) in London, Ontario, the MacDonald Franklin Operational Stress Injury Research Centre conducts innovative research in military and Veteran mental health. The Centre’s primary mission is to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Veterans with operational stress injuries through innovative, adaptive, and impactful research.

This position is a temporary full-time (37.5 hours/week) approximately 12-month, subject to the availability of work, with the possibility of renewal.

The MacDonald Franklin OSI Research Centre is dedicated to research excellence, education, and knowledge mobilization to advance mental health care for those affected by operational stress injuries. Through collaborative and innovative research, we conduct specialized, evidence-based translational studies that improve treatment outcomes and enhance the wellbeing of military personnel, Veterans, and public safety personnel.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of Dr. J Don Richardson in the role of the “Research Associate 1”. The MacDonald Franklin Operational Stress Injury Research Centre is inviting applications for a Research Associate 1 position. While this position is based in London, Ontario, the successful applicant can optionally provide research services remotely during the 12-month temporary position. This position is open to all eligible candidates in Ontario. This position may occasionally involve travel.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of MacDonald Franklin Operational Stress Injury Research Centre Scientific Director and operationally, under the Associate Scientific Director, to support new and ongoing research projects.

Successful candidates will be responsible for a broad range of day-to-day research activities related to observational, experimental, and secondary research.

Responsibilities:
•Design and lead research initiatives to address knowledge gaps in military and Veteran mental health.
•Collaborate with international researchers, clinicians, and scientists to inform and refine research priorities.
•Develop and refine research questions and hypotheses based on emerging evidence and expert consultation.
•Oversee all aspects of project management, including ethics submissions, participant consent, data collection (e.g., semi-structured interviews), and maintaining accurate study documentation.
•Conduct and lead the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data to generate meaningful insights.
•Perform comprehensive literature reviews to inform study design and contextualize findings.
•Lead knowledge translation activities, including preparing final reports for stakeholders, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at academic conferences and seminars.

Essential Qualifications:
•Completion or near completion of a PhD level University degree in a health-related discipline (e.g., Psychology, Health Sciences, Public Health, Sociology, Epidemiology) or clinical research.
•Minimum 3 years’ experience managing research studies including but not limited to:
oDemonstrated knowledge of research design principles (qualitative and quantitative)
oProposal and protocol development
oLeading literature reviews
oData management (qualitative and quantitative) including collection, analysis, and interpretation
oFamiliarity with research ethics best practices (e.g., TCPS2 CORE)
oExperience with participant recruitment
oLiaising with external research collaborators and stakeholders
oGrant writing
•Proven project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple research projects, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
•Strong knowledge translation skills, with experience synthesizing research evidence and communicating findings clearly to diverse audiences through reports, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
•Proficiency with qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, MAXQDA) and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
•Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail and task completion.
•Self-directed and reliable in remote work environments; able to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.
•Demonstrates sound judgment, initiative, adaptability, and professionalism.
•Willingness and ability to travel within the catchment area as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Knowledge of statistical software/languages such as R (or python), SPSS, SAS, Stata, and/or MPlus.
•Knowledge and experience with REDCap and other data collection tools.
•Knowledge and Experience with MS Access and other database solutions.
•Knowledge of Veteran mental health needs and interest in conducting research related to Canadian military/Veteran mental health and wellbeing.

The incumbent will maintain certification required by Lawson Research Institute, SJHC and study-specific requirements.
